Communities Celebrate Graduation

Congratulations to the 16 students from our partner communities who graduated in 2017. This includes three from Galiwin’ku and eight young women from Xavier Catholic College in Wurrumiyanga, each of whom graduated with their Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET). Wurrumiyanga celebrated the graduation of eight students who were joined by their families and community at a traditional ceremony and three proud students graduated from Woorabinda.

Palm Island celebrated the graduation of three students who all successfully completed their Queensland Certificates of Education (QCEs) and immediately began full time employment with the Palm Island Council. The Bwgcolman Community School students celebrated with two ceremonies - the ‘Clap Out’ and a Graduation Dinner. The Clap Out was a chance for the students to be congratulated by different members of staff, the council and also the Cathy Freeman Foundation. All school students lined a pathway to the front school gate, where the young men were clapped, hugged and congratulated as they left the school for the last time as students.

Another Palm Island student graduated Year 12 from The Cathedral School in Townsville with a Cathy Freeman Foundation supported scholarship in partnership with Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF).

The future is bright for these young leaders and we look forward to more students graduating Year 12 this year.
